Thanal is an indigenous humanitarian organisation and association founded by a group of local community members and professionals in Vadakara in 2008. For 15 years, it has been actively involved in humanitarian activities throughout India, with a special focus on holistic rehabilitation. Thanal was formed in response to a perceived need because it does more than just provide charity to the ‘most in need’; it also ensures that all beneficiaries and their families have successfully reintegrated into the socioeconomic and psychosocial realms at their full human capacity.
Thanal Varandarappilly began its operations in the year 2021, under the umbrella of Thanal, Vadakara. Funding for all major infrastructure was provided by the mother foundation, while day to day expenses are met by raising the funds through crowd funding and donations. We began with 8 inmates and now have 64 inmates as of March 2023. Thanal Varandarappilly is located in a remote area of Thrissur district and the forest areas are located nearby. Thanal provides possible medical care to those in need in the locality and also provides palliative care as well as medical help and aid to meet their daily needs for the destitute women. Thanal Varadarappilly presently do have an 8 member team of qualified staff who provides maximum care to the inmates to make daily life of the inmates as comfortable as possible. The services of doctors and psychiatrists are also provided to the inmates on a regular basis along with visits permitted to individuals and organisations, to console the inmates and donate food and gifts.
